CAS Community School's Efforts to Curb Chronic Absence Featured in Ed Week

In the October 14, 2010 online edition of Education Week, The Children's Aid Society's CS 61 Francisco Oller School is featured for its ongoing efforts to reduce chronic absence in the early grades.  The article, "Early Grades Become the New Front in Absenteeism Wars," cites the growing body of research (including from NCCS partners Center for New York City Affairs and Attendance Counts) on how the poor attendance patterns of younger students can be difficult to track and have a lasting negative effect.
 
The piece highlights the comprehensive strategies employed at CS 61 to both identify and address the many needs of students who are or are at risk of becoming chronically absent.
